The primary purpose of this position is to assist Generations Federal Credit Union to live out its Mission, Do the Right Thing, by providing remarkable service to both external members and internal members. Underwrites all consumer loan requests.  Monitors portfolio and makes recommendations to maintain quality in the loan portfolio.  Serves as subject matter expert on lending issues, educates/counsels members and staff on financial issues.  Promotes and actively pursues participation in all Lending initiatives.  Effectively cross sells all credit union products and services.

Primary Duties

  1. Underwrites all consumer loan requests by analyzing credit worthiness and evaluating credit risk. Justifies the decision for approval/denial on all loans, secured and unsecured as described by applicable loan policy within authority granted by Executive Loan Committee and in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.Mitigates credit risk by evaluating collateral position and value.

  2. Reviews and makes recommendations on all loan decision appeals and/or loan workouts.Assures loans meet compliance requirements.Prepares documentation package for loans referred to Executive Loan Committee.

  3. Performs as subject matter expert for all members/staff on the wise use of credit, credit report issues, and general credit worthiness.Assists members with budget development and educates members about resources available to assist them in their financial needs, such as Consumer Credit Counseling Services, etc.Reconciles complaints with authority or refers problem with recommended solution to appropriate senior staff or manager.

  4. Actively pursues opportunities to acquire new members and/or entice existing member’s usage of lending products and services.

  5. Monitors reports, such as delinquencies, asset quality, and charge offs, and makes sound recommendations to maintain quality of portfolio.

  6. Recommends appropriate changes/updates to lending Policy and Procedures to improve quality, delivery and processing strategies.

  7. Understands and applies working knowledge of all state and federal laws and regulations, policies and procedures related to Consumer Lending

  8. Appropriately cross-sells services and products to meet members’ financial needs.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned.


Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.  Some college level courses in Accounting/Finance, or approved equivalent in bank related education preferred.


Must have a minimum of three years experience of consumer underwriting experience. 


Must have the following skills and/or abilities:

  1. Must demonstrate an analytical ability to interpret data from various sources and make sound recommendations for decisions based on logical and unbiased reasoning.

  2. Must have knowledge of financial institution policies and procedures, and all relevant laws, rules and regulations.

  3. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  4. Must possess good organizational and customer service skills, as well as excellent mathematical skills.

  5. Must be able to type 35-40 WPM; 10-key by touch.

  6. Must be PC literate and competent in a Windows environment.

Physical/Other Requirements

Must be able to:

  • Stand or sit for long periods of time.

  • Lift 10-20 lbs.
