Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to assist Generations Federal Credit Union to live out its Mission, Do the Right Thing, by providing remarkable service to both external members and internal members.  The VP of Mortgage Lending is responsible for the strategic leadership and direction of the Mortgage Lending department.  Develops strategies for continued growth, profitability and efficiency, operational excellence, risk mitigation, and ensuring alignment with the goals of the Credit Union while delivering world class lending services to the membership.  This position is responsible overseeing mortgage origination activities while proactively developing new business and cultivating referral sources to meet or exceed established growth goals.  Manages a team of Mortgage Consultants and coordinates daily work to consistently meet service level objectives and ensure quality loan production.  
Primary Duties

  1. Responsible for the strategic leadership and direction of the Mortgage Lending department, including but not limited to 1-4 family mortgage (secondary market and portfolio) lending and home equity/HELOC programs.Drives loan growth, increases revenue, mitigates risk, builds and manages product lines, delivers world class lending services, and manages the integrity of the Credit Union’s residential loan portfolio. Oversees all origination, underwriting and administration of the residential loan portfolio

  2. Responsible for managing residential lending product lines; researches and analyzes new products and delivery systems for the institution. Recommends lending service/product enhancements to maximize production and recommends strategies to improve overall product delivery. Maximize credit union profitability through appropriate pricing of loan originations, fee income, and selling of all credit union products and services.

  3. Actively recruits and hires quality originators to assist in the strategic growth of the department, and effectively manages performance to achieve business outcomes.Exercises sound judgment and fairness in managing personnel, proactively coaches each employee to achieve success, and works to create a culture that is consistent with GFCU values and promotes outstanding performance.

  4. Leads and directs the daily activities of the originations team to achieve or exceed organizational goals and objectives and provide for outstanding member experiences. May also maintain a level of individual loan production.

  5. Monitors pipelines and loan files to ensure that file timelines and production standards are routinely met.Actively coaches originators, underwriters, processors/closers to drive production volume in an efficient, compliant manner.Motivates, trains, and holds team members accountable for performance standards and the accuracy and timeliness of their work.Serves as an escalation point for sensitive member issues and resolves them in positive manner.

  6. Coordinates and participates in high-value business development activities.Networks and develops strategic relationships with prospective clients and partners to generate quality leads and ongoing referral sources.Must be self-motivated and externally-focused while presenting a high degree of willingness and ability to network and seek out new sources of new business.

  7. Works collaboratively with processors, underwriters, and closers to facilitate timely reviews and closings of loan files.

  8. Understands and applies working knowledge of all state and federal laws and regulations, policies, and procedures related to mortgage compliance.Responsible for ensuring loan-level compliance with federal and state regulations, including but not limited to: TRID, RESPA, TILA, red flags, fair lending laws, appraisal rules, and flood laws.

  9. Coordinates lending activities to support various marketing campaigns and initiatives in order to increase loan volume, better promote brand awareness, and improve local market share.Provides feedback to senior management and Marketing as to the effectiveness of current marketing efforts.

  10. Identifies and recommends product, service, and program enhancements to ensure the needs of the membership are met.Collaborates with senior management and other departments on the development and roll-out of new products and services. Provides effective training and communication to the staff to ensure successful implementation of new products and services, as well as better awareness and utilization of current offerings.

  11. Displays excellent teamwork and problem-solving skills.Fosters collaboration among team members and other departments to resolve issues, develop new products and services, and improve internal communication and awareness concerning mortgage lending activities.

  12. Actively promotes and refers other GFCU products and services.

  13. Other duties as assigned.


Education
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.


Experience
Must have 7 or more years of mortgage lending experience, 5 of which must be in a leadership role managing originators.  Must have a proven sales record and demonstrated success in networking and developing new business.

  • High degree of familiarity with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Veterans Administration and other agency/investor products and guidelines.

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.


Preferred Qualifications
 

  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking a plus.

  • Prior experience with Mortgagebot.

 

Physical/Other Requirements
Must be able to:

  • Stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Lift 10-20 lbs.
  • Must be flexible in schedule to work evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Complete licensing requirements with the Nationwide Mortgage Licencing System and Registry
